Shrine Ginkaku

  1. Kyoto had been built by the Emperor Kanmu in 794 and remained as Japanese capital during more than 1000 years until 1869 excepting a short period of Fukuhara-kyo by Taira no Kiyomori.
  2. Ginkaku-ji Temple, located in the eastern hill of Kyoto city, has been built by the 9th Shogun of Muromachi, Ashikaga Yoshimasa at the end of the 15th century. He was incompetent as politician, but loving the arts of tee ceremony and gardens, he is considered as one of the best protectors of the art of that period.
  3. Two storied building with a beautiful proportion stands silently before a pond.
  4. Arranging many famous rocks and luxuriant plants around the waters, this Japanese garden is pretty as a picture.
