How to display web pages in Japanese?

In order to display Japanese web pages, on the one hand you should have got a web browser compatible with Japanese language such as Netscape or MS Explorer, on the other hand a system extension which adds Japanese characters to your system.

For Macintosh users, the choice is limited. If you are using Mac OS 8.5 or later, it is sufficient to install "Multilingual Internet Access" from the system CD-Rom of Apple. Otherwise, you should absolutely obtain Japanese Language Kit which works from the system version 7.1. For Windows users, there exist several solutions, but we recommend Kanjikit Dash if you use Netscape, and Microsoft Global IME if you use MS Explorer.

Once got those products, you should set up the browser. For this purpose, Choose Japanese font from "View" menu of the browser. The selection of "Auto-detect" is judicious because it is your browser which determines the coding method used by your favorite site.

You are visitor number since the 8th of March 2000.

List of manga sites in Japan

If you are familiar with Japanese language, it may be more interesting to look for yourself Japanese sites with Japanese search engines. The list of Japanese search engines is here.

For those which have not yet reached this level, we have selected the sites which seem interesting for no Japanese speaking people (sites which contain more pictures or/and have received more visitors). If the sites contain only Japanese version, the places to be clicked will be indicated so you can easily visualize (and recuperate) pictures.

In order to make easy the display of a long list, we have split it into 2 parts:

  1. Professional Sites of Mangas and Animes in Japan

These sites belong to a company or their content is so rich to deserve this name, especially search engines and online magazines.

  2. Fan Sites of Mangas and Animes in Japan

Those sites have been created by the manga fans. Though they should be smaller than the professional sites, their contents are frequently better, because the authors express their enthusiasm on the web.
